Shuttle services to the major cities will have to be booked through private companies. All of these have a low risk, as long as you're watching your back at bus stops.
Theft has really been on a downward trend in Yuma since 2013. The number of thefts peaked at 2388 in 2013 and was down to 1412 in 2020. No pickpockets or purse snatching were reported, so there's a low risk of that happening to you.
Extreme heat is the biggest risk here and it's a BIG risk. Don't blame the messenger for this. We'll start with the good news. From January through March you're going to have highs in the 70s or 80s with lows in the 40s and 50s. April gets close to 90°(F) and May gets you really close to triple digits. Summer is incredibly hot, with June having an average high of 106°(F), July averaging 110°(F), August at 109°, and October being the next month the triple digits "cool down" to 93°(F). You'll have lows in the 60s and 70s for the warm months. Bring sunscreen, lip balm, hats, light-colored loose-fitting clothing, and good walking shoes.
Yuma has a small international airport on the southeast side of town. There are five flights a day to Phoenix and Dallas. Sky Harbor Airport is three hours northwest of Yuma. The San Diego Airport is just about the same distance west.
